I've been reading, and writing stories of a spanking nature fir over 50 years and so far, I find it difficult to choose which I prefer..long or short...as both have similar effects. Some ofvtge most memorable have been very short and to the point with short build ups and long hard spankings. Some the opposite, the delicious build up being almost as important as the spanking it's self. But...I'm a spankoholic. If the story is spanking related...I'm in. ✌️😀✌️

This is very true. Anticipation is a key part of eroticism, and stories with a well-paced (or to use your fine term, delicious) build-up are most immersive and satisfying.

Short stories aren't merely excerpts of longer stories, and that's what makes them so challenging to write. Short stories require a single strong idea whose execution in miniature will prove just satisfying to the reader, despite foregoing most of the foreplay!

Short is fun. The kernel of an idea is introduced. I can extend the idea (here the idea of a timed hunt/chase in public setting) and imagine it being used in other settings and other outcomes. My thoughts don't get crowded by the presumption of the outcome the author may conclude.

The vitality of the scene you write endures and branches without your conclusion.

I agree, and I've always liked the notion of the reader being given enough of a prompt to decide how the story ends, according to what they find personally arousing!

I just read both parts of Moral Philosophy and wanted to sample more of your excellent writing. I appreciated the longer form - but I had planned to sleep before this time, so then I searched for the shortest story you had, and I enjoyed this too.

There's always the 'x min read' so we know in advance, and I guess reading and liking numbers will tell you what's more popular.

Thank you. Whilst I love the detail I can put into a tale like Moral Philosophy, I love the quick hit a short story with a single great premise can deliver. I shall continue to write both!

I think short mostly pique my curiosity. But sometimes they can also arouse. It all depends on my mood I suppose. I think with longer pieces, even if I'm not all that receptive to begin with, if I keep reading I become aroused kind of regardless of whether or not I intended to (at least I do when I read any of your stories). I also like the short pieces as prompts to my own imaginings - a useful starting point because sometimes an empty page is too overwhelming.

That's a very interesting insight into the reader's mind! Some stories - particularly the longer ones - are like guided walks, even though there's more described, the destination is decided, and there's less left to the imagination. Whereas shorter stories are like whispering a single naughty idea into the reader's mind, and giving them the freedom to imagine it in any way they find arousing. I shall continue to do both!

Yes exactly! Although, actually, even in your long stories you often have little stories within them, sometimes quite detailed and sometimes just enough to spark a flame in a naughty reader's imagination and send them into a tangential fantasy before returning to the main story. I'd be interested to know if other people do get sidetracked like that actually, or if I'm just easily distracted!

I love stories that have side-quests! I'd also be very interested to know whether readers do veer off to indulge their own flights of fantasy, or whether they prefer to follow the narrative, staying on the tracks of the roller-coaster!

I think short is fun but it often merely piques the curiosity. It can be a great intro to a longer story. For example I would love to know if she evades him for and hour and what 'the pleasure of her choosing' would be.

There are some writers (you included) who I relish reading their 8000+ word stories; they hold my attention and curiosity throughout. Others are good for a short, sharp slap but cannot keep that engagement going for a longer story.

Thank you, I'm honoured to be on the list of authors whose long stories are relished! I think you're right, writing longer stories that remain compelling, and don't become boring, is quite a challenge. It requires several changes of energy, from excitement to rest, and then exciting again, and the progressive revelation of new surprises. Extremely short stories might only have a single surprise, as writers, we hope that will be enough!

I love the flash fiction category, I tend to think of micro fiction as 100 words or less. You did well to capture my imagination but now finish if the story in the second 500 words. Please
